New Orleans: A Labor of Love has worked hard to create access points for a new wave of volunteers and to establish efficient procedures that connect people with all of their needs so that they can make the most of their volunteer experiences.
Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are in high demand. People are needed to gut and build homes, and to help fill out paperwork for elderly people. Lawyers are needed to assist the many who’ve been defrauded by dishonest contractors. Engineers are needed to advise on building projects. Medical professionals are needed to assist with general and emergency care. Virtual volunteers are needed to perform research and outreach on behalf of community organizations.
In one day volunteers can:
*spackle/mud in several rooms.
*install a new floor.
*paint a small house.
*read to a group of children at a community center.
*lend your special skill-set to an organization that needs it.
Imagine what can be done in two days. One week. Two weeks. One month. Double that if you bring a friend. Or multiply it if you bring your family, your students, your sorors, or your co-workers.
